Kyle wasted no time getting Chaos dressed and shuffling him into the car. Chaos went only because he was still too shocked to protest. He wanted to hope it had all been a bad dream or a hallucination, but no. That terrible moment had happened. Chaos had no clue what to think, so he didn’t. His brain went on lockdown to protect itself.

In a matter of minutes—possibly—since Chaos had a bad feeling, he had spaced out for a while. They were parked in front of a house that equaled the size of Kyle’s. Kyle circled the car. Chaos’ door opened and Kyle helped him out. Together, they moved toward the front door. It opened before they made it up the steps. A blond man with thick, soft-looking curls stood in the doorway. He looked like an angel with the same sky-blue eyes as Kyle. “Kyle.” His voice made goosebumps rise on Chaos’ skin. It had a melodic quality.

“Alastor. How are you?”

The blond smiled. The resemblance to an angel doubled. He was the epitome of temptation. At least, he would be if Chaos didn’t want Kyle so much.

Alastor’s gaze moved Chaos’ way, as if he heard Chaos’ thoughts, and suddenly, he knew everything about the man. He didn’t know how. The information just filled his brain, as if they had known each other since birth. His knees gave out. He would have hit the ground if Kyle hadn’t been holding him upright. Alastor Demonica was a demon lord. That was the most haunting detail he learned. Chaos’ gaze moved Kyle’s way. All of Kyle’s history filled Chaos’ head as well. He was a demon too.

Tears filled his eyes. “I thought you genuinely liked me.”

Kyle looked his way. He looked confused. “I do like you.”

The tears cleared like a warm breeze carried them away. For some unknown reason, considering the circumstances, happiness filled his chest. It didn’t make sense for him to feel so elated, but he did. Kyle just made him happy.

“That’s because you wished for it,” Kyle said, as if that explained everything. In a way, it did. It didn’t explain why he had lost his body.

Kyle shuffled him into the house. He blinked and found himself on a plush couch with a cup of hot chocolate between his hands. Chaos stared at the cup, stunned. Time kept jumping without his permission. He kept missing important details. His gaze lifted. Kyle paced the floor while Alastor watched from his chair.

“I don’t understand. How did this happen? He signed the contract. Chaos should’ve had at least fifty years of happiness. That was his wish. That’s the standard contract.”

Chaos didn’t follow, but he tried.

“Did you read the contract?” Alastor sounded calm and pragmatic.

Kyle stopped pacing and faced Alastor. “No. They’re always the same. Why would I read it?”

A small smile played on Alastor’s lips. “They’re not always the same. Sometimes, they’re very different. You’re still young. Sometimes, our supreme master enjoys switching things up. He can see all, after all.” Alastor snapped his fingers and a stack of papers appeared in his hand.
